Alfalfa hay

Alfalfa is a premium forage crop known for its exceptional protein, energy, and mineral content, making it one of the most valuable feeds for livestock worldwide. Pegasus Commodities primarily sources their alfalfa hay products from the PNW region (Washington State, Oregon, Idaho), or Southern California.

Alfalfa is harvested multiple times throughout the growing season, typically three to five cuttings per year depending on region and weather conditions. The crop is cut at the optimal growth stage, usually at early bloom, to balance yield, leaf retention, and nutrient density. After cutting, it’s field-dried to the right moisture level, then baled and stored to preserve its bright green color, aroma, and feed quality.

Each cutting offers distinct nutritional benefits:

First cutting tends to be coarser, higher in fiber, and ideal for maintenance diets or animals needing more roughage.
Second and third cuttings are leafier, softer, and higher in protein and energy, suited for high-performance or lactating animals.
Later cuttings may offer finer stems and improved palatability for specialized feeding programs.

Alfalfa hay is widely used across livestock sectors, including dairy and beef cattle, horses, goats, camels, and young growing animals, providing essential nutrients that support growth, milk production, and overall animal health. Timothy hay

Timothy hay is a highly regarded forage crop known for its soft texture, sweet aroma, and excellent fiber balance, making it a preferred feed for horses, dairy cattle, and small animals around the world.

Grown in cooler climates, Timothy grass is typically harvested once or twice per year, depending on the growing region and weather conditions. The crop is cut at the optimal stage, just before full heading, to ensure a balance of digestibility, nutrient value, and yield.

After cutting, the hay is carefully field-cured, dried to the ideal moisture level, and baled to maintain its bright color, clean aroma, and long-stem structure.

Each cutting of Timothy hay offers distinct feeding benefits:

First cutting has thicker stems, higher fiber, and slightly lower protein, ideal for horses, maintenance diets, or animals needing more roughage.
